Cartoonists Watch Cartoons

I spent all afternoon and last Saturday night getting behind in deadline while hanging out with a few Florida NCS friends at the Inaugural Florida Animation Festival in Tallahassee.

The Festival served up four days of award-winning animated short programs, including:  Oscar Nominated Animated Shorts; Best Of The Fest International Children’s Animation; Song of the Sea (from the makers of Secret of Kells); and the sick and twisted, 2016 edition of Spike and Mike’s Sick and Twisted Festival Of Animation. Our very own chapter chairman, storyboard king, producer, director, Mark Simon presented Timmy’s Lessons In Nature, a series of twisted cartoon shorts he co-created.

Reubens Recap

Last weekend Steve and I were in Washington where we played tourists, hung out with cartoonist colleagues, and participated in the giant annual group hug known as the National Cartoonists Society Reuben Awards weekend.

The Reubens attract the best in the business from all walks of the art. It’s a grand affair. Sort of the cartooning world’s answer to the Oscars.

Cartoon Culture At The Library Of Congress

Hey Washington DC peeps, don’t miss a chance to see and hang out with some great King Features cartoonists and creators at the Library of Congress this Friday… Many NCS Reuben Awards Weekend attendees will be on hand as well, including Team Dustin, come meet and greet.

“Cartooning and Our Culture,” will take place Friday, May 22nd at 11A.M. in the Montpelier Room of the Library of Congress’s Madison Building.
