Anchors Aweigh! We Cartoonists spent the day aboard the USS Midway, first drawing for museum goers for donations to aid our nation’s veterans, and later, to party on the Midway’s flight deck to close out this year’s Reubens.
But before that, a bus load of attendees drew cartoons to entertain wounded warriors and their families in hospital and rehab.
Our second day at the Reubens in San Diego got off to a blurry start after a very late night on Friday, with breakfast and the NCS business meeting.
Then Steve and I did some exploring. First over to see the famous Hotel del Coronado where we found out what two scoops of fifteen dollars-worth of ice cream tastes like. After that, we drove up to La Jolla for lunch overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Steve and I are in San Diego attending the National Cartoonists Society’s annual Reuben Awards which kicked off today.
So far, so great.
Day one began with presentations by Illustrator, designer, storyboarder and creator of the online graphic novel, “Red’s Planet,” Eddie Pittman; Chris Houghton of Nickelodeon, Disney TV fame and Cartoon Network fame; Greg Evans, creator of the comic strip,”Luann;” and Suzy’s Zoo products creator, Suzy Spafford .
